ANANDA BHASKAR: EXPERIMENTS IN MOFUSSIL JOURNALISM: UDAYAM

ANANDA BHASKAR RAPOLU, from Andhra Prabha Telugu daily joined UDAYAM Telugu daily on invitation of management to an elevated position as Coordinator for Rural Reporting Network TELENEWS and in-charge of Research and Development Wing.

Ananda Bhaskar was instrumental in meticulous selection and training process of the mofussil journalists and developed manuals for their talent upgradation and to improve quality of the daily. His scientific correlation of reporting network with circulation department of the daily, brought in scope for sustaining print order. He played concrete role in taking the feedback from the readers in serving their news and feature needs, which paved way for designing several specialised pages and columns.

Ananda Bhaskar pioneered several far reaching changes including separate Mofussil editions.



In UDAYAM, his association was with K.Rama Krishna Prasad, Managing Director, K. Rama Chandra Murthy, then Resident Editor of Vijayawada, Pasham Yadagiri and Chennuri Naga Raju in Hyderabad and subsequently with Gajjela Malla Reddy, Chief Editor who joined after taking over of UDAYAM by Magunta Subba Rami Reddy.
Ananda Bhaskar as head of Reporting team of UDAYAM for AICC Tirupathi Plenum heralded several model reporting including minute by minute coverage and daily chronology besides several politically sensitive and human interest aspects.

Besides writing in-depth analysis on international and national developments, his contributions attracted specialised readers.

Ananda Bhaskar took part in several training camps through out the state.

Ananda Bhaskar came out of UDAYAM in March 1988 and re-joined UDAYAM after change of management on the invitation of Gajjela Malla Reddy. After change of ownership, had opportunity to work with Nanduri Ramamohana Rao, K. Subbarayudu, J. Umamaheswara Rao (Sahavaasi), Narla Rajendra Prasad and other versatile hands.

In between, Ananda Bhaskar was founder editor of VAARTHAAKAALAM, Telugu Fortnightly, which attained the level of India Today Telugu edition.

Ananda Bhaskar came out of practicing Journalism in 1994 February to plunge into public life as whole timer of Indian National Congress.

ANANDA BHASKAR RAPOLU: BIOGRAPHER OF INDIRA GANDHI: 1984









With his life time memory of Indira Gandhi in 1976 September, Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu was keen in understanding and preserving the records of her life.


The news of brutal assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 at her official residence, where Ananda Bhaskar had opportunity of photograph with her in 1976, immediately made him sick and had to go home from Andhra Prabha to take medical aid and to recuperate from the truama folliwing Indira ji's demise.

For three days while at home in Gemini Colony, Ramnagar, Hyderabad, Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu following the tragic end of Indira ji and her final rites, decided to write down her biography in Telugu.

Thus, Ananda Bhaskar became first Biographer in Telugu of Indira Gandhi, immediately after her assassination. The book Indira Gandhi published in December 1984, which was released by Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Governor of AP who later became President of India.

The book Indira Gandhi was released on December 19, 1984 at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad in the presence of Rapolu Saroja, wife of Ananda Bhaskar, A. Rama Mohan Rao, Journalist then in Eenadu and now in India Today. Visuals of the cover page of the book Indira Gandhi, few reviews in English on it, the letter from Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust by H Y Sharada Prasad and letter of Gunturu Sheshendra Sharma were on the top.

ANANDA BHASKAR's AUGUST SAMXOBHAM: HOT CAKE IN 1984





After his stint at Nalgonda, Hyderabad, very briefly also in his native Warangal and Karimnagar, during the beginning of August Turmoil in 1984, Ananda Bhaskar came out of Eenadu to publish his first book August Samxobham and to subsequently join Andhra Prabha.

August Samxobham became ready reckoner and handy reference to the students of Political Science and contemporary History of the state Politics. The style of narrative got appreciations from several including famous writer Gunturu Sheshendra Sharma. Cover page of August Samxobham and copy of letter of him were on the top. August Samxobham was published in October 1984, within fifteen days of the re-instatement of N T Rama Rao as Chief Minister.

Potturi Venkateswara Rao was editor of Andhra Prabha, when Ananda Bhaskar joined it.

Ananda Bhaskar served in the General Desk of Andhra Prabha in Hyderabad.

ANANDA BHASKAR: REPORTER OF HUMAN INTEREST STORIES & POLITICAL TURMOIL

Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu, by the time he got his results, he got call letter to attend interview to join into Telecommunications Ministry job, Trainee Journalist in Newstoday of EENADU telugu daily and also to join into Diploma into Pharmacy at Visakhapatnam.

As his parents gave him free hand to chose, Ananda Bhaskar prefered to attend interview to become Journalist. After completion of selection process, he was found to be under age for fullpledged job.

As an option and to encourage new comer, EENADU asked him to write from his native Kodakandla of Warangal district. Between November 1981 and March 1982, EENADU Warangal district page was regularly with full of datelines of Kodakandla, which got this fame for the first time with the reporting of Ananda Bhaskar.

Now famous, then unknown Chaakali Ilamma of Palakurthy was highlighted by Ananda Bhaskar in Eenadu. Her grand son became Sarpanch of Palakurthy then.

The atrocious conditions in the Visnoor precincts which led to famous writing by Alwar Swamy, famous writer, to report as Biryani cooking with Donkey's meat in Visnoor: titled as GADE KI BIRYANI DOBHI KA PARESHAANI, uprising of Kadavendi with the sacrifice of Doddi Koumraiah and ferocious revolt by Chaakali Ilamma were reminded afresh by Ananda Bhaskar during those reportings in 1981.

His writings on Palakurthy Shri Someswara Swamy temple, Mahakavi Somanatha and famous poet Bommera Pothana got focus to then lesser knowings places and personalities to those days' young readers.

Ananda Bhaskar's report on the convertions into Christianity of illiterate rural persons with the title: AMBRIKOLLE ANDA (AMERICA PEOPLE ARE TO HELP US)
got sensated and several enquiries took place and false lurings stopped.

Immediately after his birthday in 1982, Ananda Bhaskar got invitation for regular job as Trainee Journalist in Newstoday of EENADU. Since he was groomed in the field and attained syntax and narrative, the training on job was alomost not required and from the day one, he was on the regular Mofussil desk in Hyderabad.

He got closer association with Gajjela Malla Reddy, then one of the editors of EENADU, which continued till the demise of great Communist Poet and Vetaran Journalist.

Ananda Bhaskar was sent to Nalgonda as Staff Correspondent. The historic times, socially and politically, in Nalgonda district were keenly reported by him. With the encouragement of APVN Sarma, the the District Collector, along with Phani Kumar, then RDO, Nalgonda, M.Chandra Reddy, DPRO and other literary friends, he ensured the visits of famous poet Sri Sri and reputed writer Rachakonda Viswanatha Shastry to Nalgonda.




Ananda Bhaskar was seen besides Sri Sri in the top visual, while he was on visit to Nalgonda in 1983.
Another visual shows Ananda Bhaskar with Chandra Reddy, then DPRO and third one shows Ananda Bhaskar with Phani Kumar, then RDO on risky visit to Rachakonda Hills.

Ananda Bhaskar while in Nalgonda covered tours of Smt. Indira Gandhi and Shri Rajiv Gandhi.

Ananda Bhaskar, as staff correspondent of Eenadu had his special role in coverage of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) getting its foot hold, humble beginnings of several upstarts Kunduru Jana Reddy, Mothukupalli Narasimhulu, Alimineti Madhava Reddy, who later became much famous politicians.

Ananda Bhaskar's coverage of human interest stories got recognition through out the state.
